5.1.2 Extended Choreography

The diagram below depicts an extended choreography which makes use of two messages defined in the latest version of the Musical Work Right Share Notification Choreography as well as messages defined in this standard. In this extended choreography, each of the Musical Work Right Share Notification Choreography messages must contain information specifically designed to support the process defined in this standard.

Some of the messages are used in different contexts and, thus, convey differing semantics. The figure below does not show the use of the Manifest message.

Figure 2  –  Extended Choreography of the US Letters of Direction Choreography

The tables below summarise the points in the three cycles of the US Letters of Direction Choreography when each message is sent, in addition to the messages of the core choreography set out in Clause 5.1.1 (messages (3) and (4) in the above Figure 2).

MusicalWorkClaimRequestMessage

A Musical Works Licensor who has acquired a catalogue of Musical Works (or Right Shares thereof) wishes to request, from the Relinquishing Music Publisher, confirmation of the catalogue and information regarding Resources and/or Releases that embody the Musical Works or Right Shares that make up the acquired catalogue to enable the Acquiring Music Publisher to contact relevant Licensees.

This cycle of message exchange, the Identification Cycle, enables the parties to identify the Musical Works or Right Shares and the Resources and Releases they are embodied on that make up the Catalogue transfer. The Identification Cycle is optional and may be effected by other means such as a simple email exchange.

The Relinquishing Music Publisher also wishes to inform the Acquiring Music Publisher about Resources and/or Releases  that embody the Musical Works or Right Shares that make up the acquired catalogue to enable the Acquiring Music Publisher to contact relevant Licensees.

The Relinquishing Music Publisher shall include all Resources and Releases that it knows are affected by the catalogue transfer.

LoDMessage

A Licensee has received an LoDMessage and wishes to confirm the transfer with the Relinquishing Music Publisher in order to redirect any future payments and/or licence requests to the Acquiring Publisher.

This cycle of message exchange, the Confirmation Cycle, enables the parties to confirm the transfer of a Catalogue of Musical Works and Right Shares has occured between the Relinquishing Music Publisher and the Acquiring Music Publisher. The Confirmation Cycle is optional and may be effected by other means such as a simple email exchange.

6

LoDConfirmationMessage

A Musical Works Licensor who has relinquished a catalogue of Musical Works (or Right Shares thereof) receives an LoDMessage from a Licensee and wishes to confirm (or not) the catalogue of Musical Works (or Right Shares thereof) that have been transferred.

When sent from a Relinquishing Music Publisher to a Licensee, the  LoDConfirmationMessageserves as a confirmation of the catalogue transfer to the Acquiring Music Publisher and enables the Licensee to redirect any future royalty payments or licence requests.

The LoDConfirmationMessage only confirms that Musical Works (and affected Resources and Releases) have been transferred in accordance with the LoDMessage received. The LoDConfirmationMessage is not intended to enable the sending of updates of the metadata about these entities.

If both parties involved agree, a Relinquishing Music Publisher may need to send multiple LoDConfirmationMessages in response to a single LoDMessage for example, because the process of identifying the affected Resources and Releases is iterative or takes too long and an interim response is deemed necessary.

In those cases, a subsequent LoDConfirmationMessage shall include all prior information and completely replace any LoDConfirmationMessages sent earlier.
